“We honor the 70-year career of a true American legend,” said Deputy Postmaster General, who dedicated the stamp. “With this Forever stamp, the Postal Service celebrates a woman who used her platform as a renowned entertainer to become a prolific voice for civil rights advancement and gender equality.”

Thoughts on Justin Timberlake’s Performance was Mixed
Justin Timberlake’s Superbowl performance is receiving mixed reviews, with most disappointed in the 13-minute performance.
Leading up to Timberlake’s performance, speculation around a NSYNC reuniting and even an appearance from Janet Jackson had everyone on their toes up until a day before the performance. Janet Jackson released that she would not be appearing at the halftime performance with JT and no words from NSYNC came about.
One thing Timberlake did do was a special tribute to Prince, lighting up the entire city with purple during the song. Timberlake had a hologram of Prince during the song and some weren’t feeling it, while others appreciated the homage.
Being a JT fan, I enjoyed hearing some throwback songs from him and felt he did a great job.

Angela Bassett Receives Third Degree from Yale University
Angela Bassett is 59 and definitely killing it! The actress who has played in many of our favorite films such as What’s Love Got to Do With It, The Jacksons: An American Dream, Black Panther and more is receiving her third degree from ivy league university.
Bassett’s Doctorate of Fine Arts degree tops her B.A. in African American studies in 1980 and her M.F.A. at Yale School of Drama in 1983.
“We are absolutely thrilled to honor the ten honorants,” said Yale’s Vice President for Communications Eileen O’Connor. “They are all deserving of the degrees and [were chosen] through a process of careful selection, and we’re really excited to have them here to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2018.”
We are so proud of Angela Bassett and hope she continues shining!

Bill Cosby Verdict Gets Honorary Degrees Revoked

Bill Cosby woke up behind bars this morning, and the entertainment star is getting a lot of his accomplishments taken from him.
On Tuesday, Cosby, who used to be known as “America’s Dad,” was sentenced three to ten years in prison for sexual assault. The country’s opinions of the verdict are controversial, but many universities and colleges across the nation have made up their mind about this verdict.
New York Magazine’s Vulture reached out to the about three fourths of the almost 60 honorary degrees Bill Cosby had given to him, and 33 of them have revoked Cosby’s honorary degrees!
This is so interesting, plus Temple University, a school Cosby even attended, took his honorary degree from his as well.

American Airlines Adds Florida Flights for Winter

Everyone needs a vacation, and now that American Airlines have added new flights; the game has changed. American Airlines is adding new flights out of the Philadelphia International Airport to Florida early come 2019.
Starting Jan. 12, travelers can fly from Philadelphia to Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Departing and returning flights will operate on Saturdays and Sundays. Travelers can also now take non-stop trips Key West and Melbourne, FL from Philly, and this begins September 16.
The flights are seasonal, however, and the trips will end Sept. 1 according to PHL.

Gladys Knight, Mary Mary and More to Honor Aretha Franklin at American Music Awards 2018

Aretha Franklin’s funeral tribute was just not enough for us to soak up what the late great legend has for us, but the American Music Awards this year made sure to repair those holes in our hearts!
On Oct. 9th, we will be able to see some of the top R&B and Soul Singers gather to honor Ms. Franklin onstage. Included in the lineup will be Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, and CeCe Winans.
Now, this sounds like a line-up! I cant wait to see my them act up on stage soon!
The acts will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8pm!

Gabrielle Union to Produce and Star in New Film

Popular actress, Gabrielle Union will be producing and starring in an adaptation of author and beauty expert Tia Williams’ 2016 novel The Perfect Find.
The adaptation, will be produced by Gabrielle Union’s Production company I’ll Have Another, has gained the rights of the book, and are expecting to make the film a huge romantic comedy for the big screen.
The screenplay will be written by Leigh Davenport, a former producer and consultant at BET.
The Perfect Find will begin shooting in 2019.

So Quincy HAD to get to the bottom of this and it’s not what you think. It was all for Growing Up Hip Hop: New York; but again, it’s not what you think. When he agreed to do the show he made it VERY clear that there was to be no messiness, no beef. Ja jumps on stage with Charli they perform Down Ass B-. We get off stage everyone is smiling, happy, loving. I’m in the VIP section, they throw some girl on stage. I don’t say that to be disrespectful, I don’t know who she is. She gets on stage right after we leave and starts disrespecting Charli, me and Ja. Causing that frenzy. So now I’m walking and I’m trying to see this girl who’s dissin us. So now I’m like y’all wanna get active? Now I’m 10 which I told them don’t do this because me and Ja ain’t really like…like we’re great guys but if you spit in our face; we’re gonna spit back. So the camera now..they want to film me. Boom! I snuffed the camera guy, the camera hits the guy in the face, security comes over and grabs me and now it’s a situation.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Kyle Giersdorf: The Teen Who Won The $3 Million Fortnite Tournament

Parents, we never thought the day would come, but it may be time to start encouraging your kids to play more videos games.
Especially after 16-year-old Kyle Giersdorf received over $3 million for winning the inaugural Fortnite World Cup in New York.

Giersdorf ranked first place at the world’s largest single-player videogame tournament held at the sold-out Arthur Ashe Stadium.

1. He’s from Pennslyvania
The 16-year-old champion is from the City of Brotherly Love. Well, not technically, but you can bet we’ll still claim him! Giersdorf was born and raised in Pottsgrove, PA where he lives with his mother and father, just an hour away from the city. His mother notes that it is here that he began playing video games at the age of three.
2. Game is Life for Him
After investing 13 years of his life into gaming, the teen has developed a very strict routine. On average, the champ spends at least 6 to 7 hours on the game a day. Giersdorf starts each gaming session with a 30-minute hand workout before he begins playing. He says he then connects with his friends online to strategize before big competitions.
3. His NickName Has Deep Meaning
During a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, Giersdor, who also goes by “Bugha” revealed that his game-name was given to him by his grandfather when he was younger. “My grandpa gave me the name when I was a baby. He would say Bugha, Bugha, Bugha, so that’s where I get it from,” said the teen.
4. This is Not the First Time He’s Won Competitions
Bugha is not new to the competitive world of gaming. He revealed that both he and his parents realized that he could potentially go pro after winning smaller competitions over time. Giersdorf is now represented by the Sentinels, an esports organization that manages competitive gaming teams.
5. Investing is His #1 Priority
Giersdorf is doing way more than spending his $3 million earnings on Takis and the latest products from Apple. “I’m just going to save money and invest it and not do anything dumb with it,” said the teen when asked what would he do with his fortune. Giersdorf was only $8 million shy of taking home the same earnings as the future winner of next month’s U.S Open.
While this may be just the beginning for the gamer, Giersdorf sure has put an end to the game shaming from nagging parents everywhere!

Time sure does fly! It seems like it was just yesterday when summer first began and now children are already headed back to school. In preparation of the academic school year, here are 8 annoying things teachers hate hearing from parents during the school year:

1. I am not buying all of those school supplies just so everyone in the class can use them
Back to school shopping can be expensive, especially when shopping for an entire family. However, buying things like tissues, hand sanitizers, and Clorox wipes for your child’s classroom reduces germs from spreading and prevents your child from getting sick during the school year, which ultimately saves you time and money in the long run. Plus, pitching in to maintain the classroom teaches children a sense of collectivism. After all, school is their home away from home, and everyone should play a part in contributing.
2. Is there school tomorrow?
This one is especially true for the times where there may be inclement weather. Parents we get that you’re just trying to plan ahead for the snow day, but imagine being asked the same question via text over 20 times. Most of the time, teachers aren’t aware of the answer if you aren’t and will most likely get any updates from the School District of Philadelphia’s website or local news stations-all things that you can do on your own.
3. My child lost their lunch box. Can you keep an eye out for it?
Teachers wear many hats during the school year, but keeping up with your child’s belongings isn’t one of them. Teach your child to be responsible for their things.
4. Giving excuses for why your child poor behavior
Parents, no one likes to be the bearer of bad news. Quite frankly, teachers hate having to inform you of when your child is misbehaving because it takes away from teaching. Please don’t be the parent that gives the teacher a hard time by refusing to believe them or by rationalizing your child’s behavior. We’re not saying that you shouldn’t ask questions for a better understanding, but giving excuses only enables your child and prevents them from reaching their maximum potential.
5. I didn’t know there was an early dismissal today
We think we speak for all teachers when we say, how sway? Besides the fact that faculty sends home several reminders and plaster flyers all over designated pick-up areas around the school’s campus, you should know when you child dismisses from school each day. After all, your children are your most prized possession, right? Get there on time!
6. Why Is my child not allowed to go on the class trip?
Parents, please do not reach out to teachers about your child not being able to attend school trips especially when you’ve failed to respond to them about attending parent-teacher conferences or other more relevant matters concerning your child’s education.
7. The reason why your child had to hand in their project late
Book reports are children’s first introduction to punctuality and accountability. Teach them to be responsible by helping them stick to deadlines early on.
8. If someone hits my child, I encourage them to defend themselves
No one wants their child to be bullied at school. However, phrases like this only increase physical altercations in school. Try prompting your child to use their words to resolve conflict instead.

What in the world is Philly up to now?! This quarantine got the good people of Philadelphia bored and ready to risk it all.
Two Philly teens posted a video on Instagram of them attempting to remove one of the teen’s house arrest ankle bracelet by using a hammer. You heard it right, they continuously struck the house arrest ankle bracelet with a hammer until it broke off.
The simple fact that his friend trusts him enough to use a hammer and is relying on him to have good aim says a lot on their friendship (or it says a lot on how dumb they are).
